Live Class: A tuffet is a type of footstool. It can be a useful piece of furniture, a whimsical accent piece, or a lovely gift for weddings and the holidays. In this class, the student will learn how to make a pieced 18-inch Tuffet from beginning to end. What a unique alternative way to use fabric and to make a piece of furniture! Students will need to purchase a class kit which will consist of: fusible interface, muslin, printed directions with photos, tuffet finishing kit made from furniture grade materials with choice of 6 different feet finishes, upholstery thread, 17-inch square of fusible interfacing, 12-inch Add-a Quarter ruler, and a set of four upholstery needles. Student will need to supply their sewing machine, basic sewing tools/supplies, and their own fabric. A list of needed supplies and fabric requirements will be given to each student upon confirmed registration. This class will have additional handouts. Class will be taught as three 90-minutes sessions over 3 days. “Homework” is required between sessions.

Required Kit: Class Kit contains: Fusible interface, 1-yard of muslin, printed directions with photos, tuffet finishing kit made from furniture grade materials with choice of 6 different feet finishes, upholstery thread, 17-inch square of fusible interfacing, 12-inch Add-a Quarter ruler, and a set of four upholstery needles. Retail value of this kit is $250-$260. First 10 registered students will also get a 10 oz. fine misting sprayer bottle (Retail value: $12). Other Supplies: Fabric:1 jelly roll -or- 32 WOF (42”/44”) 2-inch wide strips of fabrics of your choice. It is suggested to pick fabrics that repeat in multiples of 8, i.e. 4 sets of WOF x 2-inch of 8 different fabrics (eight 1/4-yard cuts), 6-inch square of fabric for the button, 18-inch square of fabric for the bottom, Sewing Machine with a zigzag stitch (an open toe foot or cording foot is desirable for this project), Long flat head straight pins, Rotary cutter with a sharp blade, Seam ripper, Size 14 sewing machine needles, Coordinating sewing thread, Best Press or similar product, Rotary cutting mat/board (Cutting boards need to be at least 18 inches wide in one direction.), Iron with ironing pad/surface, Large eye sharp hand sewing needle (for upholstery thread), Scissors (preferably with sharp pointed tips), Sharpie type permanent marker, Gun-type hand or electric stapler with 1/2-inch staples, Short piece of 3-1/2 to 4-inch PVC or empty, clean can with a similar opening size to accommodate the button, Small hammer, Numbered pins or small post-its (optional), 1 5/8-yard of jumbo rickrack, flat braid, or gimp (to be glued over the staples for a finished look), Optional: Teflon ironing/pressing cloth, Fabric glue stick, Light box
