Under The Sea
Under The Sea
Pieced & Quilted By:
Marie Anderson
Description:
I was stunned by the absolute brilliance of the undersea world of Cozumel, Mexico’s beautiful reefs. I challenged myself to recreate the beauty I saw in that undersea world. I started with a teal dyed deer hide and drew a rough draft of the images I wanted on the hide with chalk. I quilted the turtles and the octopus with double batting. I removed the peice from the long arm and cut around the edges of the turtles and octopus (Trapunto). I reloaded the hide with more backing and batting and quilted the turtles, octopus and the sides. I took it off the long arm and cut away where there was no quilting. After that was done, I put it back on the long arm and quilted the background, in between the major features, details in the water and the border/edge. Under The Sea became the perfect reminder of that brilliant undersea world of Cozumel for me.
