In January 2020 Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild members were challenged to design and make a quilt based on the art of a midcentury modern artist. Inspired by Victor Vasarely and his optical illusion quilts, I cut and pieced drunkard’s path blocks and 45-degree diamonds from a variety of solid colors and values. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic and self-isolation, finishing the quilt meant piecing a backing from my stash. Batting is Quilter’s Dream Wool. Domestic machine quilting on a Bernina was done with a walking foot, and ruler foot with echo guide, using Aurifil 28-weight thread on top and 50-weight in the bobbin.
